In order to comply with stringent infection control practices, appointments are allocated to each clinic based on the type of care to be provided, rather than by patient location.

If you would like to enquire about a dental problem, your dental care, referral or appointment, please contact your local clinic.  If your local clinic is not on the above list, please still call your local clinic number and you will be put through to a member of our team.

Attendance at a clinic is by appointment only to enable us to ensure adequate social distancing.

We have had to cancel routine care during the Lockdown period, and are currently re-establishing services, prioritising the most urgent care first. We will contact patients as and when we are able to see them, but please call us on the telephone number above if you have an urgent dental problem.

When you attend for an appointment at the clinic, please ensure you notify your clinic of your arrival.  You will then be given instructions on how you will enter the building.

You will be asked to wear a mask and to apply sanitizer to your hands before you come into the clinic. All patients will have had a telephone or video consultation with a clinician before their appointment and the exact nature of the treatment to be provided will be agreed during that call. It is important that you let us know during this call if you or any or anybody in your household has had symptoms of COVID 19 (persistent cough, high temperature, persistent loss of taste or smell). You will also be asked about any recent travel arrangements and confirm any existing isolation requirements.

The presence of symptoms or isolation requirements will not prevent you from accessing urgent care, but we will need to put suitable arrangements in place to minimise the risk of transmission.

To minimise personal contact, we ask that patients do not bring any non-essential items into the clinic, and that they are unaccompanied unless they require the presence of one carer or parent to attend. If you pay for your treatment, where possible, we will ask you to do this over the telephone.

Additional Needs

We know that some patients can have difficulties in accessing dental care. We’re here to give high quality treatment and a caring, understanding approach to children and adults with additional needs.

What services do you offer?

We are experienced in treating patients with a wide range of additional needs, supporting them and their families and carers through dental treatment.

We have ground floor clinics that are accessible to wheelchair users.  Some of our clinics have wheelchair recliners, hoists and bariatric dental chairs.

We provide a caring, understanding environment for patients with learning disabilities.

We build long-term relationships with our patients. We pride ourselves on our good communication with hospital services, social services, specialist learning disability services and special schools.

We provide dental care with:

  • Behaviour management techniques
  • Inhalation sedation
  • Intravenous sedation
  • General anaesthesia

Do you accept referrals?

We are a referral only service.

Dental Anxiety

Patients with very severe dental anxiety may be referred in to our services. Fear of dental treatment is common and can stop someone from seeking dental care.

If you have a low level of anxiety some simple methods work such as building a rapport with your dentist and feeling that you are being listened to. You may find that it helps to have a stop signal which you can use to let the dentist know when you would like to take a break, or distraction with music through headphones which can be brought in.

Relaxation techniques can work very well and your dentist will be able to help you with these.

If you have a much higher level of anxiety and this is preventing treatment your dentist may refer you to our services.

 

Routine

It is important for you and your family to visit your dentist on a regular basis. We are different from a regualr High Street dentist, in that we provide dental care to people who find it hard to visit a regular dentist, often the most vulnerable in society, as well as providing specialist advice and care for some of the more complex dental problems.

At Community Dental Services we do also offer some routine dental care but, depending upon the age of the patient, only in some of our clinics and then depending upon availability of appointments.

We treat children up until the age of 18 in all our clinics.

Our patients receiving routine care will be offered a full course of treatment as clinically appropriate. Courses of treatment are provided on the NHS and are subject to NHS charges unless you hold a valid exemption certificate. We offer the full range of care which is acceptable under NHS rules and regulations.

We also offer some private paid for dental care, which some patients may choose to opt for.
